 Equipment We Cannot Use

The “I hate to tell you this but it ain’t worth fixing” Hit List

Machines on this list for a variety of reasons are inappropriate for the mission fields that we serve

(we have a global ministry).  This is a compiled list based on the experience of the most experienced

certified biomedical technologists in Christian medical missions that I know.  This list may have nothing

to do with the quality of the machine.  For a variety of reasons (no longer supported by the manufacturer, manufacturer out of business, expense of operation etc.) we believe these machines are inappropriate

for those God has called us to serve.

   Anesthesia Machines:

         - Draeger 1 or older machines

         - Ohio older than Model 1

         - Foregger

         - Penlons

   Defibrillators:

         - Burdick MD3 or older

         - Physio Control Lifepack 4 and older models

         - Any AC only operated systems

   Dermatomes:

      - Compressed Nitrogen is not available in most Christian hospital settings in third world.

Air compressors will damage the motor because they do not deliver “medical air”.

This also may contribute to wound contamination.  Please send only battery operated units.

   Electro Surgical Units:

         -  Aspen 380’s

         - Bovie Specialist

         - KarlStorz Endoscope Bipolar Coagulator Mod 26021

         - Oximetrix Shaw Scalpel Model 150

         - Radionics CoA-Comp AntiSticking Bipolar Coagulator CBC-1

   Electrocardiograms and Cardiac Monitors:

         - Burdick CS-625 Memory Monitor

         - Burdick ECG Model EK/5 and older models

         - B-D Electrodyne EKG Model ST-219

         - Fikuda Denski 1990 or older

         - Multinex Patient Monitor Model 4200

   Infant Incubator:

         - Kreselman (Green also)

         - Vicker’s (big Green machines)

Do not accept if they have asbestos seals/exposed lights/chicken feathers are a bad sign as well!

   Pulse Ox:

         - Biox

   Sa O2 Monitors:

         - Nellcor 1000, Mark 1A

         - Multinex Patient Monitor Model 4200

   Surgical Drills and Saws:

         -  Compressed Nitrogen is not available in most overseas Christian hospital settings and these

units are usually not desirable.  See discussion under Dermatomes.  Look for battery operated

            models.

   Vital Signs Monitors:

         - IVAC

         - Ameda

   Xray/Flouroscopy Units:

         - Portable units – Siemen’s and GE AMX 4

IV pumps… Expensive, due single use proprietary patient tubing sets.  Dial-a-Flo by Hospira (Used to be made by Abbott) or equivalent is what we recommend.  These are inline flow regulators and a low tech solution to this need.
