Shattered Heart – Level I
The shattered heart is in a million pieces. Due to pre-adoption abuses and neglect, she is unable to trust authority figures to keep her heart safe and unable to accept limits. Self preservation prevents her heart from being able to feel and connect with others on an emotional level. When she thinks about God all she feels is pain. To graduate from this level your daughter will have accomplished the following:
- regaining control of behaviors
- can accept limits
- respectful of authority
- displays cause-and-effect thinking
- beginning to make more positive choices
- beginning to show an interest in God
Fragile Heart – Level II
The fragile heart accepts limits and is starting to trust and feel, but is still very vulnerable to wounding. The “new heart of flesh” is very tender. The full range of emotions concerning her issues and pain are starting to come to the surface, but she still is trying to understand and embrace the depth of her pain. She is starting to form fragile, emotional attachments. To graduate from this level your daughter will have accomplished the following:
- showing empathy toward others and animals
- more confidence in positive choice making
- talking out feelings instead of acting them out
- continued respect for those in authority over her
- exploring on a deeper level her relationship with God
Redeemed Heart – Level III
The redeemed heart can trust and feel fully, handling those feelings in a healthy way. This “heart of flesh” is fully living and breathing, forming healthy emotional attachments to others and interacting without needing to be in control of every situation. To graduate this level your daughter will have accomplished the following:
- consistent positive choice making
- fun to be around
- healthy interactions with authority and peers
- integrity as a leader
- beginning to display the Fruits of the Spirit as defined in Galatians 5:22
- establishment of a true heart-to-heart connection
- can say that her desire is to truly have Matthew 22:37-39 as the goal for her life…
