Financial Accountability

HIM has been a member in good standing of ECFA (Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability) since 1995.

ECFA Standards and Best Practices

ECFA (founded in 1979) is an accreditation agency dedicated to helping Christian ministries earn the public’s trust through adherence to seven Standards of Responsible Stewardship. ECFA’s seven Standards of Responsible Stewardship focus on board governance, financial transparency, integrity in fund-raising, and proper use of charity resources. The ECFA Standards are seldom changed, providing members a steady baseline for consistent application of the Standards. These Standards do not allow for grading on the curve.  Rather, they are pass-fail Standards.  If a member fails even one of the Standards, it is disqualified from ECFA membership.  To see the seven Standards of Responsible Stewardship requirements and to learn more about ECFA, visit their website at: ECFA.org

As part of the ECFA requirements, the HIM Board reviews HIM’s annual financial statements and maintains direct communication with our comptroller.  All our resources are used (nationally and internationally) in conformity with applicable federal and state laws and regulations to accomplish the exempt purposes for which they are intended.  All our financial records are reviewed annually by an independent auditor and a written report is given to the HIM Board.

“We are taking pains to do what is right, not only in the eyes of the Lord but also in the eyes of men.”  2 Corinthians 8:21 (NIV)
